Goal #4 – Beat Kentucky

Look, I understand that people want this season to tank so that a coaching move is made and the Cards can bring in the one guy who just so happens to be the coach in West Lafayette, I get it. However, I think we can all agree that knocking off a very good Kentucky team would make this season just a little bit more tolerable.

They are very good. Let’s not miss that. It’s hard to swallow how bad our Louisville team is knowing they are currently sitting at 6-1 and are tied for first place in the SEC East. However, I believe they are beatable.

No matter how bad the coaching has been this season, and how unwilling Petrino has been to look enthused, there is no doubt that they will get up for the Kentucky game. If there’s one team that Coach P has always wanted to beat no matter how bad or good his team is, is Kentucky. Since taking over as the Head Coach of Louisville back in 2003, Bobby Petrino has a combined record of 8-2 against Kentucky (including his stops at Arkansas and Western Kentucky). He’s lost to Kentucky just one time as the Head Coach of Louisville, and has outscored the Cats 284 to 157.

Things are different this season no doubt about it.

Benny Snell is averaging over a 100 yards per game, and the Louisville defense is ranked in the low 100’s in the nation in stopping the run. However, Kentucky is extremely vulnerable when they forced to throw, as Terry Wilson aka “Touchdown Terry” (LOL) ranks 117th nationally in total passing, 143rd in touchdowns, and 90th in total QBR.

The Cats have just six touchdowns passing compared to 16 rushing. We’ve seen Louisville struggle in games against teams who run the ball nonstop (looking at the Georgia Tech game specifically) but against the Cats I think it could be different.

Next. Vince Tyra’s comments lack vote of confidence to Bobby Petrino. dark

The UK game will be senior day for guys like Jaylen Smith, Lukayus McNeil, Jeremy Smith, etc. all players who have been around long enough to know how important it is to beat the snot out of the Cats.

It won’t be easy. But I believe with a riled up Bobby Petrino, coaching in what will likely be his last game of his career at Louisville, the team will be ready to go and will have a reason to get a victory.
