Louisville Football: Big Red Louie’s Game Predictions vs. Wake Forest
By Jacob Lane
After a bye week Louisville football moves into the second of their season as they face off with Wake Forest at home on Saturday.
Each week the team here at Big Red Louie does their best to predict what will happen for Louisville football against whoever they face that weekend. So far, we’ve done a horrible job.
If we’re being honest, who has really been able to predict anything correctly about the Cards this season? Definitely not me. I’m the same guy who predicted Bobby Petrino and the Louisville program to go 10-2 and make a surprise run at a BCS game. Look how that’s turned out for me.
Moving into the second half of the season at this point anything positive happening is good for me, good for our team, and good for the Cardinals. With more than half of the fan base ready for Jeff Brohm to be the new coach of the Cards, and the other portion saying things like “it’s just a down year’ “the team is young” things are just flat out weird.
Anyways…
This week Louisville has a chance to get a big win, something they haven’t done since September 15th against Western Kentucky. They really haven’t been good at much of anything, and aside from a great half of play against Florida State, the team really hasn’t shown us many positives that would lead you to believe they may be able to get things turned around.
Myself and three others from the Big Red Louie team hopelessly try to make predictions. But as always, who the heck knows what’s going to happen.
Check out our thoughts.

I’m looking for a team that is rejuvenated by a bye week and motivated to prove people wrong. It seems like each week things got worse and worse, so a bye week is exactly what was needed for Bobby Petrino and company. I think being at home, though it will likely be a sparse crowd, will help and the Cards will play close to a complete game. Wake Forest WR, Greg Dortch, and RB, Matt Colburn, will probably have big games but the defense does enough to let the offense do their job.

I’ll be looking for a breakout game for Puma Pass. Wake’s defense was picked apart by Florida State’s Deondre Francois last week as he threw for 353 and two scores. Puma quiets his happy feet, makes the downfield throws he’s been inconsistent with, and doesn’t get pulled!

What I am looking for is the bye week to have helped this team refocus for the remainder of the season. I think the defense steps up in a big way against Wake and we see not 1, not 2, but 3 sacks and a touchdown from the defense this week.
For the offense I see Puma playing the entire game and we only see the punter on three possessions. I hope to see a the run game front and center for the Cardinals this week. Special Teams will make a big play and keep Louisville in good field position most of the game. Score wise Cards pick up their first ACC win of year

I am looking for some sort of improvement on the defensive line. Without team captain Jon Greenard, the defensive front four have been porous at best. With that being said, the Cards haven’t beaten a power five team since Thanksgiving of 2017 and Bobby Petrino’s squad has given me no reason to believe that is going to change any time soon.

Here we are 8th game of the year sitting at 2-5 and easy to say the season hasn’t gone how any of us have wanted. What I’m looking for Saturday is any sort of positive signs from a team coming off a bye and it translate to a win. The team and fan base desperately need a win. God we all need a win. I’m looking to see the guys go out there and perform well and hear the fans cheering them on. I just want these guys to get to experience a positive home crowd this season.
I think coming off the bye, Louisville finds a way to exact revenge on Greg Dortch and the Demon Deacons.

It’s unlikely that the home crowd is one that will be seen positively even though the game is at noon, the bad weather is expected to hold off, and the game should be competitive. However, it’s hard to blame anyone who has simply had enough.
But I would implore anyone who has the ability to try and make it out for what could be the last winnable game of the season.
As always, GO CARDS!
