Louisville football picked up a commit in the class of 2020 this afternoon.

Just two days after the firing of a head coach you would expect a football program to be losing recruits. But for Louisville football that is the opposite of what happened today.

There’s been a lot of talk about Vince Tyra, Richard Owens (Louisville’s interim TE coach) and current Recruiting Coordinator, Pete Nochta, getting on the phone just hours after the firing of Coach Bobby Petrino to ensure that no other recruits backed off their commitment or potential targets dropped Louisville from consideration.

Whatever those coaches and Vince Tyra said must’ve worked when it comes to 2020 three star QB, Patrick Roberg.

The 6’3, 220 pound Pro-Style Quarterback out of Westlake Village, California, took to Twitter a few moments ago to announce his commitment to the Louisville football program.

This comes as a shock to me and probably plenty of fans. Again, I can’t stress enough that it is extremely common for players to decommit after the coach they committed to is fired or takes another job.

Roberg, who is in the class of 2020, was offered by Louisville just seven days ago.

The Cards were the first offer Roberg, who plays his high school football at Westlake High School, but according to Beaverblitz.com, Roberg has heard from UCLA, California, Illinois, Washington State, Baylor, and Michigan State, and recently took an unofficial visit to Oregon State.

Through six games this season as a first year full-time starter, Roberg has 1,158 passing yards, and 9 touchdowns. When speaking about what he brings to the table as a Quarterback, Patrick Roberg told Beaver Blitz:

"“I think I can locate defenders and read defenses to make smart throws, but I want to improve on my knowledge of the game while also staying calm in the pocket. I am working on going through my progression to check down with more confidence and ease.”"

Louisville currently has one other commitment in the class of 2020 in Hialeah, Florida four star OL, Jovens Janvier, who committed to the Cards back in May. After the firing of Petrino there has been no update on where he stands with the Louisville program.

Things change quickly in the world of football recruiting, so a verbal commitment may not mean much at this time. The recruitment of Roberg is definitely worth monitoring over the coming weeks and months. However, at this time – this is a big commitment and an even bigger message for the future of Louisville football.
