As Thanksgiving approaches, families across the country will celebrate with their own traditions. Food will be consumed, football will be played, and family drama will be shared.

Thanksgiving is about that sentiment in a lot of ways though. A fondness for the history of our families. A love of something more whole that is made up of the characteristics and idiosyncrasies of individuals even as life and circumstances change. If you’re reading this, then what is true for us at Big Red Louie, is probably just as true for you. Louisville athletics is a significant part of your life. It’s there for you when you need a helping hand.

It’s just around the corner when a loving distraction is the only thing to cure a heartache. It gives us heartache of its own sometimes and brings us unexpected joy all the same. It’s your sweet grandma and your wacky uncle.

Ever present but ever changing, often expanding even as we lose those dearest to us, Louisville sports is our family. And for family, we are thankful. (“That’s grandpa’s chair new girl, don’t sit there.”)

This led me to the question, as a Louisville fan, what am I most thankful for when it comes to UofL athletics?

Below myself and my teammates from Big Red Louie try to answer this question by listing things we believe Louisville fans are thankful for.
