Chris Mack

This one seems like a no-brainer. Before Mack took over, the basketball program had no direction and lost all momentum. Interim head coach David Padgett had done all he could to muster the team to rally around each other. The team would fall short of their goal in making the NCAA tournament and would have to participate in the NIT.

There was no recruiting momentum and being a Louisville basketball fan was tough to say the least. However, that would all change in time with the hiring of Chris Mack from Xavier.  Mack was hired shortly after the loss to Mississippi state in the NIT and for the first time in three years, it felt like better days were ahead.

Mack would bring a new energy that had been missing from that NIT season and he would do his best to get the fan base energized. Fast forward to this past week. Mack has signed his first true recruiting class dubbed “The Super Six” and currently holds the number one class in the country. For the first time in awhile, it feels as if there is momentum surrounding the program. Despite the loss to Tennessee on Wednesday, the team played with an energy that had been missing from the year prior.

There is no doubt that Mack can take this program and return it to its former glory. Mack is also in tune with the times and he even feels like a coach of the people. His tweets about Taco Bell and his family is a refreshing start to a program that was almost shrouded in secrecy for so long.
