After exploring other options, DuPont Manual running back Aidan Robbins will sign with Louisville football on Wednesday.

Louisville football fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Local running back Aidan Robbins is staying home.

After some nail-biting moments back in June, Robbins committed to Bobby Petrino and the Louisville coaching staff. Robbins was a guy that the Cards were in on for a long time, and he chose the Cards over Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

However, after the departure of the old coaching staff, and the arrival of Scott Satterfield, almost every member of the 2019 recruiting class either decommitted or were encouraged to look elsewhere. Remaining committed were two offensive linemen- Zach Williamson and Ty Murray- and Robbins.

Robbins, though, took the time between Satterfield’s hiring and the early signing period to take a look at other schools and weigh his previous committment. Robbins visited Colorado State, had a visit from Kentucky and, most notably, loved his visit to BYU.

It was apparent that Robbins and BYU had mutual interest, and his mentions on Twitter were flooded with Cougars fans.

But, ultimately, Robbins was impressed by his discussion with the new Louisville staff and announced his intentions to sign with the Cards on Wednesday, December 19th.

Keeping Robbins is one of the first big accomplishments for Satterfield’s (currently) four-man staff. This decision helps the Cards gain some momentum in recruiting going into the winter period between early signing period, and actual National Signing Day in February.

Robbins is a perfect fit for the new-look Cardinals in 2019. He is a downhill runner who loves contact, but still is quick given his 6’3,” 225 pound frame.

Check out Robbins’s senior season highlights here.

Robbins is a no-nonsense runner. See hole, hit hole, continue play with reckless abandon. Look at him like a Dae Williams-type of player, but perhaps with a bit more speed.

Add Robbins to the stable of backs with Williams, Colin Wilson, and break-out freshman Hassan Hall, and suddenly Louisville has a quartet that all bring something different to the table. The Cards also need depth at the running back position given a rough ACC schedule.

Maybe most importantly, Louisville will keep a highly sought-after local product. Scott Satterfield made it clear that other teams weren’t going to poach from Louisville’s back yard. Robbins’s high school, Dupont Manual, is quite literally in Louisville’s back yard- the campus and football practice fields are situated just across the street from UofL.

Where Louisville recruiting goes next is hard to tell. There aren’t a ton of options in the 2019 class, but the Cards have some holes to fill on both sides of the ball. The Cards are likely to hit the transfer, grad transfer, and JUCO markets.

Whatever the case, Scott Satterfield and staff have their first win of a new Louisville football era.
