Louisville football lands first commitment from big recruiting weekend
By Jacob Lane
Louisville football picked up their second commit in as many weeks as three star linebacker Allen Smith pledged to the Cards.
It’s been an extremely busy couple of weeks for the new Louisville football staff as National Signing Day quickly approaches. The Cards signed just four players during the Early Signing Period, which should’ve come as no surprise, as Scott Satterfield and his staff had just a few weeks to re-recruit the players committed and pursue other players.
Now with a full staff, including five star recruiting Cort Dennison, Louisville has things rolling. Last week the Cards picked up a commitment from three star offensive lineman Renato Brown, who had previously been committed to Miami, bringing their total to five committed players in the class of 2019.
With a HUGE weekend planned with several big time recruits on campus in Louisville, it was looking like there would probably be one or two commitments taking place by the end of weekend. We now know that at least one player has shut down his recruitment and announced his commitment to the Louisville Cardinals.
That player is Allen Smith, a three star outside linebacker, who announced via Twitter that he was going to join the Cardinals 2019 class.

The 6’3, 205 pound linebacker out of Loganville, Georgia not only visited the Louisville campus this weekend, but also received an in-home visit from his primary recruiter, Cort Dennison, on Thursday night. That visit along with his trip to Floyd Street was enough for him to see a future with the Cards.
Smith is rated as a three star linebacker by 247 Sports and is ranked as the 54th best OLB prospect in the country. The GA product chose Louisville over several other power five programs including North Carolina, Iowa State, Nebraska, and Oregon.
Louisville will be getting a speedy linebacker who will be able to play both inside and outside linebacker for Bryan Brown and the Cards, as well as safety. At 205 pounds, Smith has the ability to both play the run and chase down ball carriers from long distances and make open field tackles, and also drop back into coverage against wide receivers and tight ends.

Smith will join Dorian Jones as linebacker commitments, and it seems like there could be a few more for the Cards as Colgate graduate transfer, TJ Holl, is expected to visit in early February. Smith will provide even more depth at the linebacker position for Louisville and will join Robert Hicks, Dorian Etheridge, Nick Okeke, PJ Blue, and CJ Avery on the 2019-2020 roster.
This won’t be it for the staff as there will likely be at least one or two more commitments in the coming days.
