2019 Louisville basketball signee Samuell Williamson is named a McDonald’s All-American.
Louisville basketball will continue it’s streak of having a McDonald’s All-American on every team for at least one more year.
The Cards have had a former Burger Boy on their roster every year since 2006, and their latest will be 2019 signee Samuell Williamson.
Williamson is a 6’6″ shooting guard from Rockwall, Texas who will look to be a one-and-done type of talent for Louisville in 2019-20. He was one of Chris Mack’s first recruits at Louisville, and committed to the Cards this past September.
Williamson will look to fill the shoes of the departing Khwan Fore and Christen Cunningham, as well as Jordan Nwora- who could potentially be testing the NBA draft waters after this season. He could be a wing or a lanky two guard, and has the ability to take his defender off the bounce, create from mid-range, or spot up from deep.
Williamson describes himself as a good shooter for his size, a great rebounder, and a guy who is versatile and can help create for his teammates.
Louisville’s 2019 class is loaded with talent. Aidan Igiehon is the eye-popping, athletic freak. David Johnson is the hometown kid who’s game most fans know. Josh Nickelberry are the highly-skilled ball handler and sniper from deep. Jaelyn Withers is a smooth power forward with a high upside. Quinn Slazinski is the baby-faced assassin. However, Williamson seems to be flying under the radar even though he is the highest rated player of their “Super 6” class.
Perhaps Williamson’s lack of attention stems from his calm demeanor or smooth offensive moves. His entire game is predicated on his ability to hit shots under pressure or beat the opponent off the bounce. His game could be such a juxtaposition to a more in-your-face “Hulk-like” figure like Igiehon that he is often one of the lesser talked about players in the ’19 class. But that may not be the case for much longer. Now, Williamson is the Burger Boy.
Starting with David Padgett, who joined Louisville’s squad as a transfer in 2005, moving to Earl Clark, Samardo Samuels, Peyton Siva, Wayne Blackshear, Chane Behanan, and finally to VJ King, Louisville has had at least one McDonald’s All-American on its roster for 12 seasons. Now, Chris Mack continues the All-American legacy with no intentions of stopping soon.
McDonald’s All-Americans brought so many great moments to The Ville over the last decade. Now, it’s time for Sam Williamson to cement his legacy in 2019.
