This weekend, Louisville played host to a slew of junior recruits, including wide receiver Christian Fitzpatrick. As promised, Big Red Louie caught up with the familiar 3-star 2020 wide receiver prospect to discuss his visit.

Louisville football appears to be in good position with another big-time recruit- this time in the class of 2020.

Very familiar to the Cardinal football program, Christian Fitzpatrick (younger brother of current WR standout Dez Fitzpatrick) made his most recent unofficial visit to the Cardinal football facilities this past weekend. It’s been a few weeks since he last visited, but a lot has changed with the Cardinals football program since then.

“I had a lot of fun! It’s a big change around the program, you can just tell,” the high school junior told BRL. “Last time I visited was the FSU game this past season. The vibe around the program then was just everyone seemed down and in shock.

Now there’s a lot more players hanging around the facility and everyone seems happy and ready to get started. It was great.”

That is a welcomed change to say the least, and it’s one that Christian and many of the other visitors seemed to notice.

When asked about the environment, Fitzpatrick said “the vibe was great! All the recruits seemed to be enjoying themselves. I didn’t get to really talk to many other recruits. I hung with Dez and Seth mostly and we all got to watch the basketball game. The crowd was great!”

While taking in basketball games is fun and all, there was business to be had. As we reported in our interview with Christian a few days ago, the main agenda for Christian was to meet and develop a rapport with Scott Satterfield and the new UofL staff; primarily WR Coach Gunter Brewer.

“I met and spoke to Coach Satterfield. He’s a nice guy and seems to have things going right. Once I got acquainted with Coach Satterfield, I went off with Coach Gunter Brewer” Fitzpatrick said.

And what were Christian’s first impression of Coach Gunter Brewer? “Man Coach Brewer is great! He’s real knowledgeable, real energetic. He’s a player’s coach. He loves coaching and loves to be around younger people. He’s gonna be a great coach there!”

Christian had a few questions meeting the new UofL staff. One of the biggest questions Christian had going into this weekend was if they (UofL coaches) saw Christian and his skill set as a fit in the Satterfield offense.

“I spent a lot of 1-on-1 time with Coach Brewer. For like over an hour we went over a lot of NFL tape and who he’s coached in the past, guys like Randy Moss, Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon. Coach Brewer had broken down a lot of my film and he was making comparisons of my size and skill set to Philadelphia Eagles wide out Alshon Jeffrey (who he coached this past season).

Any questions that Christian had going into his visit this past weekend appeared to have been answered thus far. There’s still a lot of time, but the vibe we got here at Big Red Louie is the Cards have positioned themselves nicely to be the early front runner to land Christian and his services.

Also let’s not forget Christian’s father (Greg) mentioned Christian canceled a recruiting visit with another major P5 school this past weekend to meet and greet with Coach Brewer and the new UofL staff. Christian is a big time recruit for this UofL football staff. If they’re able to land Christian’s commitment over the next several months, it’d not only be an affirmation from Christian on the direction of the UofL football program, but you’d have to believe from Dez as well.

Coach Brewer, from everything we’ve gathered, appears to be an A+ hire. He’s made a big impression on Christian and the Fitzpatrick family and that is key. Recruiting is 90% relationships and Christian and his dad both spoke to us last Friday about how important the ‘coach/player relationship’ aspect is to Christian.
