Gervarrius Owens – S

Not ranked (JUCO – Northeast Oklahoma A&M)

6’2, 195

Miami, OK

Keeyon Stewart and Jamel Starks take precedent when it comes to filling holes in the secondary, but should both players end up elsewhere, Gervarrius Owens would be a nice consolation prize for the Cards. Not to mention he’d bring some serious experience coming from the JUCO ranks.

Owens, who was named a JUCO All-American this past season playing for NE Oklahoma A&M, was a late addition to the recruiting board for the staff. He visited this past weekend after visiting Minnesota and receiving interest from Texas Tech.

The redshirt freshman finished the season as his team’s second-leading tackler with 51 tackles, two tackles for loss, three INT’s and 3 pass breakups. Owens seems like a solid player who would be a nice addition to a secondary that is extremely talented but needs a lot of work and tutelage under ShaDon Brown, the new safeties coach from Colorado.

At this point I think there are higher priorities for the staff in the secondary and the only way Owens ends up a Card is if those guys choose to go elsewhere.

Other schools being considered: Minnesota, Texas Tech

Prediction: Minnesota
