Zach Edwards – LB

Edwards is a huge pick-up for the Cards at a position of need. Edwards is listed as an outside linebacker, but he is a versatile athlete, and could play elsewhere based on Louisville’s needs. The Cards were able to beat out schools like Texas A&M and his home state team Ole Miss for his services.

Louisville has some experience at linebacker between returning starters Robert Hicks, CJ Avery, and Dorian Etheridge. However, all linebacker spots are going to be up for grabs. Expect PJ Blue to be in the mix, possibly (Louisville lean, but unsigned) TJ Holl, and Edwards. Louisville is likely to run a 3-4 defense under Satterfield, Bryan Brown, and Cort Dennison, meaning that the Cards will be linebacker heavy.

Brown describes Edwards as a guy who “when he tackles, all of those guys always fall backwards.”  Expect Edwards to get playing time immediately, and maybe even as a starter.
