Ean Pfeifer – TE

A graduate transfer that can play two years? Very nice. An offensive lineman turned tight end? You had my interest at two years left to play, but a big boy catching touchdowns? Sign me up.

Pfeifer comes to Louisville without much experience at the tight end position, literally having zero catches during his collegiate career. But what he lacks in that department he’ll make up for in blocking and being able to help the Cards in the running/passing game on short yardage situations.

We’ve talked about it ad nauseam over the last few weeks but the Cards came into the Signing Period with one tight end on the roster in Jordan Davis, who had just two catches last season. With how much importance Scott Satterfield places on the tight end position, specifically for blocking and short distance play action, adding a high level blocker like Pfeifer is extremely important.

Expect to see the RS Junior in a lot of 2nd and 3rd down situations lined up almost as a sixth offensive lineman, having the potential to surprise defenses on fake blocks and play action plays.

I don’t see him having a big year statistically, but his value could be extremely important right away for Louisville in a transition year.
