Calvin Pryor – S

If I was putting together an all-decade team for Louisville football, there is not a doubt in my mind that one of my two safeties would be Calvin Pryor, who was the most menacing Cardinal I’ve seen on the field since Robert McCune in the early 2000’s.

If you came over the middle of the field you better have your head on a swivel, because #25 Calvin Pryor was always looking for his opportunity to kill another human being (figuratively of course). Pryor showed incredible potential as an NFL safety due to his hard hitting, speed, and the ability to make plays on the ball no matter the scenario.

Unfortunately for Pryor, after being a first rounder – drafted by the Jets in 2014, he was never able to provide the high level talent in the league that he did at Louisville. Pryor started a total of 38 games through the first three years as a Jet, totaling 190 tackles, 7 TFL, and 2 interceptions, which isn’t too bad in terms of production.

But during a time of turmoil for the Jets Pryor was reported as being a bad locker room guy and it resulted in him being traded to Cleveland. Looking for a fresh start, things didn’t last long as Pryor was cut for fighting a teammate and then signed with Jacksonville, but never played another game in the NFL.

The AAF was put together for guys just like Pryor, who desperately are in need of a second chance or his case, a second-second chance. Pryor’s hard hitting abilities would fit in perfectly in a league that allows players to do this.
