Michigan State

Adjusted offensive efficiency: 6

Adjusted defensive efficiency: 7

Michigan State may be a surprise team on this list, but realistically, they shouldn’t be. Sparty has lost 5 games, but four have come to ranked foes, and three back-to-back-to back losses were on the heels of losing their most talented player Josh Langford to injury. The Spartans are also without forward Nick Ward and wing Kyle Ahrens.

They face an uphill battle heading into the NCAA tournament because even though KenPom doesn’t account for the losses of their key players, the inherently biased selection committee is sure to take it into account when seeding the Spartans. The fact that MSU will likely have three of it’s 7 best players sitting on the end of the bench for the remainder of the season, which is probably enough to derail their title hope. Still, don’t temper your expectations too much.

Tom Izzo is a master at getting his teams playing well at the right time, and sophomores Cassius Winston and Xavier Tillman along with senior Kenny Goins are talented enough to propel this team with the right draw.
