ACC basketball power rankings: A new team claims top spot
Only one game this week for Virginia Tech, but they made it count. Their win over Duke is the signature win they have needed this season and one that valuted them into the fourth spot in the ACC. The Hokies looked like a team possessed, and they never let Duke grab a lead in the second half, even without star guard Justin Robinson.
Though without their most dominant player in Zion Williamson, Duke was still a tough out. Kerry Blackshear was a monster on the interior for the Hokies, and Ahmed Hill led the charge in the back court. This was a statement win. Virginia Tech is an extremely talented, well-coached squad, and they are going to be an extremely tough out come NCAA tournament time.
This week they’ll get the opportunity to lock up the fourth spot in the ACC Tournament and earn a double bye with the likes of UNC, Virginia, and Duke. Then they’ll close their regular season against depleted Miami on Saturday.
