The East Region in the 2019 NCAA tournament presents the potential for a plenty of juicy match-ups. We break down the five best.

The 2019 NCAA tournament is as top heavy as a postseason has been in a long time.

It is highly unlikely that you will see straight chalk on the way to the elite 8 and final four, but the top 8 or 10 teams in the country are hard to beat, and a weak bubble would indicate that there may not be as many teams up to the task.

However, this is March, and things tend to get a little weird when everyone’s season is on the line every single game.

Nowhere could this be more true than in the East Region. A top four of Duke, Michigan State, LSU, and Virginia Tech presents a very similar story line across the board: The East Region is full of teams who finished the regular season without one of their best players.

Duke was without probable No.1 overall NBA draft pick Zion Williamson prior to the ACC tournament. Michigan State has suffered a slew of injuries- most recently losing sixth man Kyle Ahrens in the Big 10 championship game. LSU is without one of it’s stars and it’s head coach amid a recruiting scandal. Lastly, Virginia Tech finished their last 12 games strong, but without dynamic starting guard Justin Robinson- who will return for the NCAA tournament.

The East Region is full of teams overcoming obstacles, which means that anything and everything can happen starting this Thursday. We take a look at 5 of the best possible match-ups down the line.
