Two months off of National Signing Day, Scott Satterfield and the Louisville football could be close to landing another member to the 2019 recruiting class.

Back in February, Scott Satterfield and his Louisville football staff were just two months onto the job and were putting all of their efforts into the 2019 recruiting class and beginning to do their work on a depleted roster left behind by Bobby Petrino.

Satterfield and his group of new coaches finished the class with 16 signees, finishing 72nd nationally (take that number with a grain of salt) and doing their best to clean up a mess that was left for them without much time.

Since then the Cards have landed another graduate transfer in T.J. Holl, the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year in 2018, to help sure up their defensive front seven. Now they’ll look to add another signee to the class of 2019, this time coming from high school senior Dequan Watts.

Watts is a three star cornerback out of Atlanta, Georgia, who Scott Satterfield and company have been after since offering a scholarship in January, on the heels of his decommitment from Central Florida. Watts, who held offers from several power five programs including Oregon, Texas Tech, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, was a hot commodity and looked to be a huge potential get for the Cards.

On signing day Louisville ended up signing one player with a secondary position, that being Jamel Starks, a three star CB/S out of Decatur, Georgia, who ultimately ended up signing with the Cards and looks to be a potential steal. However, Satterfield and company stayed in touch with other targets.

After seeing the schools on his list take other players at his position, Watts decided to hold off on picking a school before ultimately ending up at Colorado State.  However, like they seem to do often in college football, things changed for Watts.

On Sunday night he took to Twitter to announce that he would be signing with a new school that wasn’t Colorado State. His list included Louisville, Texas Tech, and South Carolina, the three schools who once seemed to be the leaders in his recruitment.

Now with several defensive players transferring or being moved positions, including corner backs Rodjay Burns and Russ yeast, who moved to outside linebacker and safety respectively, the Cards are back in the market for a corner.

At 6’2″ Watts fits the mold of corners that co-defensive coordinator Bryan Brown likes to use in his scheme. He’s tall, lanky, fast and extremely athletic, all of which showed in his senior stats as he finished with 49 tackles, six interceptions and nine pass breakups while also returning a kickoff for a touchdown playing for Jackson High School.

By the looks of the crystal ball predictions, the decision by Dequan Watts is too close to call at the moment. Watts will make his decision on Tuesday afternoon and sign his National Letter of Intent. Should he chose the Cards, Scott Satterfield would be getting another nice piece to add to the puzzle that is a long-term rebuild of the Louisville football roster.
