ESPN rates Louisville basketball’s Fresh Kimble as top 10 transfer
By Jacob Lane
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello released his top transfers for 2019-20 and 2020-21 and Louisville basketball’s newly committed Fresh Kimble made the top 10.
We’ve been covering transfers and scenarios of things that could happen over the coming weeks for Louisville basketball as has the rest of college basketball media.
Today ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, released his list of the top available transfers on the market. He divided the transfers, which now is close to 700 according to Verbalcommits.com, into graduate transfers (eligible right away) and sit-out transfers.
The top graduate transfer was none other than Rayjon Tucker, the Arkansas Little Rock transfer who the Cards have expressed interest in, followed by Bucknell transfer and Kentucky commit Nate Sestina. Another name that made the top 10 was Lamarr “Fresh” Kimble, who committed to Chris Mack and the Cards last week.
Members of the national media have applauded the Cards for landing of Kimble, one of college basketball’s top available guards, and have begun including Louisville in the top 10 for the 2019-20 season and even in conversation of Final Four caliber teams.
Kimble, who averaged 15.6 points and 2.8 assists brings athleticism, playmaking, three point shooting, leadership, and most importantly toughness to the Cards next season that will be desperately needed with the departures of graduate transfers guards Christen Cunningham and Khwan Fore.
When asked by 247’s Jody Demling what he will bring to the Ville next season, Kimble said:
"“I’m a winner and that’s first and foremost. It’s a great situation for me because we can win championships next season, not just ACC but a national championship. That’s one of the biggest reasons for me to come here. On the court, I move the ball, I’m unselfish and try to get people around me better. I try to look at myself as a balanced player.”"
When you read through the reactions of the Cards landing Kimble and then see media members shooting Louisville up the rankings, and even ranking Kimble so highly, it’s obvious that Chris Mack got exactly what he was looking for.
Where Louisville struggled last season, Kimble will thrive and help to build on the foundation that Cunningham and Fore laid. Whether it’s being able to attack downhill, force defenders to try and stop the pick and roll, or knock down open shots, Kimble will be able to bring a new dimension to an even more dynamic Louisville roster.
