Louisville basketball: Top 2020 JUCO player will visit Cards

Jay Scrubb, one of the top 2020 Junior College players in the country will visit Louisville basketball soon.

Louisville basketball is all-in on the 2020 recruiting class.

Though the Cards will likely land some college freshmen to supplement what they already plan to return in two years, Louisville is going to leave no stone unturned in the search for talent.

Most recently, it appears that Louisville basketball and Chris Mack have been in contact with local product, and current JUCO stand-out, Jayden Scrubb.

As first reported by Mike Hughes of insidetheville.com, Scrubb confirmed that he “will visit Louisville soon.”

Scrubb, a 6’6,” 220-pound shooting guard, played his high school basketball at Louisville Trinity before moving on to John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois.

In his first year at Logan, Scrubb has earned major acclaim and was the only freshman on any level to be named an NJCAA first-team All-American. This has led to much speculation that Scrubb will be the top-ranked Junior College player in the country heading into the coming season.

In year one, Scrubb averaged 19.5 points and 8.6 rebounds while shooting 54.9 percent from the floor and 46.4 percent from three-point range. Though it is against lesser competition, Scrubb is a talent that could be utilized at the highest level.

As a reference, some on 2019’s top players are going to places like Oregon, LSU, and Texas Tech. Much of the best talent comes from the top 25 JUCO players in every class.

Scrubb, by all accounts, will be a hot commodity by the end of his Sophomore season. However, Louisville basketball should certainly have the upper hand in recruiting him.

Scrubb played his high school ball with incoming freshman David Johnson at Trinity. He also played for a local AAU team, Louisville Magic.

Though his last name is Scrubb, Jayden is anything but. He displays an ability to slip into the lane for soaring dunks, and the Louisville lefty hits threes at an extremely high rate. He fits the size of a prototypical NBA two guard and displays the size and craftiness displayed by incoming Louisville freshman All-American Samuell Williamson.

Scrubb appears to have a complete game. His three ball is on the mark almost half of the time, but he is crafty in the mid-range game as well. He uses superior athleticism on the defensive end to create extra possessions and displays solid patience and timing in all facets of his game.

Scrubb’s relationship with Louisville basketball is long-standing. Aside from the obvious connection of growing up in their back yard, he was paid a visit from interim coach David Padgett prior to the end of last season. He also has the connection with future Cardinal David Johnson and was a freshman in high school when current Card Dwayne Sutton was a senior at Manuel.

Should the Cards want Scrubb, it seems that there is a high likelihood that he ends up back in his hometown. Scrubb would be an excellent addition and could make an impact for Louisville basketball in the near future.
