If Louisville football targets graduate transfers, who might they be?
By Jacob Lane
Zach Abercrumbia – DT
Former team: Rice
Career stats: 117 tackles, 11.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 1 FF
The most productive member of this list is former Rice defensive lineman Zach Abercrumbia, who may be one of the most sought after transfers on the market as of now. Like Penniston of Wisconsin, Abercrumbia had an offer from the previous staff at Louisville out of high school.
Since announcing his intent to transfer from Rice after what he called ” unforeseen circumstances” Abercrumbia has heard from a handful of Power 5 programs including Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame, Texas, Virginia Tech, and Mississippi State.
Last season the 6’1, 285-pound defensive lineman put together an extremely impressive season, totaling 55 tackles, 4.5 TFL, and two fumble recoveries, and was named All-Conference USA Honorable Mention.
There is nothing at this point that indicates that Louisville has reached out or has any interest in the graduate-transfer, but with Abercrumbia being one of, if not the best defensive lineman available, the only thing that would keep the Cards away is a scheme fit if you ask me. With Abercrumbia just now graduating though, and yet to really dig into his recruitment, maybe the Cards could sneak in late with playing time as the big recruiting piece.
Pros: Experienced and productive starter with interest from a lot of big-time programs.
Cons: Production at C-USA school may not translate to Power 5 football.
