Dez Melton- H-back/ Tight End

3-Star | No. 145 ATH

If there was a position of need after the departure of Bobby Petrino going into 2019, it was at tight end.

The Cards return one scholarship tight in Jordan Davis who has not been productive in his last two seasons.

Satterfield and co. scored lineman-turned-tight end Ethan Pfeifer, and then picked up a commitment from Dez Melton out of Glendale, Arizona.

Melton could be an instant-impact guy just from a sheer numbers standpoint. He will be one of three scholarship tight ends in a system where they are often essential.

He also brings versatility immediately to Louisville’s offense. Melton was mostly utilized as a running back in high school, but he is a do-it-all type of player who isn’t afraid to be in as a blocker or put his shoulder into someone as a runner.

With the Cards still trying to find the right fit at tight end, don’t be surprised to see Melton pick up quickly in the new system and maybe see some playing time right away.
