Louisville football already has one quarterback committed in the class of 2020, but that isn’t stopping them from recruiting other elite players at the position.

It’s been just a few weeks since Scott Satterfield and Louisville football received a commitment from up-and-coming three-star quarterback Tee Webb. To land the dynamic QB the Cards were able to beat out an impressive group of programs, including fellow ACC programs Miami and Syracuse – while looking like they got their QB of the future.

But with so much uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position at Louisville and the importance of that position in the complete rebuild of the program, Satterfield and company aren’t stopping with one commitment.

After landing Webb as well as making the cut into the top 8 for elite dual-threat QB Robby Ashford, the Cards are now all in on another prospect, Shane Illingworth.

Illingworth told Greg Biggins of 247 Sports that he would be taking the first official visit of his recruitment to Louisville, which is a huge win itself for the Cards who are looking for a punch to their 2020 class.

The four-star pro-style quarterback out of Norco, California confirmed his visit today with a simple pin drop emoji via Twitter.

Getting Illingworth on campus is a pretty big deal for the Cards, especially considering the need for a QB who could be ready to play from day one as a freshman in 2020-2021.

After a breakout junior season at Norco High in which Illingworth threw for 2,739 yards and 29 touchdowns, climbing up the charts across all major recruiting sites. 247 Sports ranks the 6’6″ 225-pound quarterback as the 8th best pro-style QB in the class and he currently holds offers from the likes of Arkansas, Arizona State, Boston College, Colorado, Oklahoma State and several other schools on the west coast.

He’s a big kid with a rocket for an arm, showing great accuracy on throws down the field and towards the numbers. While he’s not a burner like Louisville fans have been used to seeing with guys like Lamar Jackson or Malik Cunningham, Illingworth shows quality speed that could be used well in a heavy spread and run, pass, option offense. His ability to move the pocket and beat linebackers and defensive ends to the edge makes him a perfect fit for a Satterfield led offense.

Louisville is without question one of the top teams right now for Illingworth, who told 247 Sports,

"“They (Louisville) have been recruiting me hard for a while now and I have a lot of interest in them so I’m excited for the visit.”"

The Cards will have plenty of competition for the senior QB in a wide-open competition, but with the quarterback position sitting mostly unsettled at this point, the 2020-2021 season could offer playing time right away for the right QB, which should entice any quarterback at the high school level.

A summer commitment seems to be the move for Illingworth, who said “I don’t have any other trip dates set up right now outside of Louisville. I do plan to take a few more official visits and then make a summer decision but I haven’t decided on where or when those trips will be. I know I’ll visit Oklahoma State and I’ll figure out the rest of the trips later on.”

Louisville typically hasn’t gotten too many commits from the West Coast, but all of that could change with Illingworth.

"“Location doesn’t matter to me, I’ll go anywhere. I’m just want to find a place where I feel comfortable and fit in. I think when I find the right school, I’ll know it so I’m looking forward to playing out the process and we’ll see what happens.”"
