Russ Yeast – DB – Jr.

Similar to my comments on Hassan Hall, Russ Yeast is another name to get familiar with early this offseason – as I predict we will hear it being announced many times during games if Defensive Coordinator Bryan Brown has anything to do about it.

Everyone loves a good comeback story, and given what fans have seen and heard about the Cornerback-turned-Safety thus far – Yeast is poised to have a great story this season.

Arriving as an impressive four-star recruit, Yeast came into the Louisville program with lofty expectations. However, the last two seasons have been less than ideal for Yeast – being thrown into action early as a freshman, enduring two subpar Defensive Coordinators, and playing positions he was not built for.

A culmination of these reasons pushed Yeast to enter the transfer portal at the conclusion of last season, understandably.

However, Bryan Brown had another idea.

Coach Brown sat down with Russ to discuss the players’ frustration with his experience at Louisville thus far, and how Brown had a plan for him to change that. That conversation swayed Yeast to give his third Defensive Coordinator one more shot.

Early in the offseason, Brown moved Yeast from cornerback to strong safety – a move that has made a world of difference.

Yeast has excelled so far as a strong safety in Brown’s defensive schemes. These early reports were confirmed, as fans were able to watch Yeast intercept Puma Pass in Louisville’s open spring practice showcase.

With a new position and coordinator in hand, Louisville fans have another talented player on defense to cheer for this season. You can read more about Russ Yeast here.
