Amonte Caban – DE

The coaching staff has spent a lot of time this offseason praising the team as a whole for the way they’ve adjusted to the new coaching staff and the subsequent culture change. But when it comes to players, they’ve shied away from individually picking out players.

So when Scott Satterfield praised the entire defensive line and individually pointed out senior defensive end, Amonte Caban, it went a long way in showing just how improved he’s shown to be this offseason. Satterfield told 93.9 The Ville’s, Mark Ennis,

"“On defense, the defensive line will fit nicely in our scheme. We are switching from a four down to a three-down but we have some guys there. Amonte Caban is one who stands out for us. That could be a surprise spot for us.”"

It’s hard to use last season as a way to justify a player’s production, considering the entire Louisville defense was quite possibly the worst in the country at just about every position, but for Caban, a player who came in with hype and hadn’t quite done much since stepping foot on campus, he showed that with playing time he could be a productive player.

Caban finished the season fifth in tackles, with 50, and also totaled 2 sacks – which tied for first on the team.

This season, he’ll be leaned upon heavily as a guy to lead the defensive line to a bounce-back season. Under Ivey and new defensive coordinator, Bryan Brown, Caban will be in a spot that fits him well, probably better than any scheme he’s played in thus far.
