Louisville football: 21st century All-Cardinal offensive team
Center – Eric Wood
2005-2009
There’s no question who would earn the nod as the 21st Century offensive team’s starting center. After redshirting his first season on campus, Wood became the team’s starting center in 2005 playing well enough to earn All-American honors by Rivals.com and College football news.
During the next two seasons, Wood would start 25 out of 26 games, showing serious durability – something that would be a huge fixture of his NFL career, helping the Cards offense rank sixth nationally in yards per game.
He would earn All-Big East accolades in both seasons and would go on to finish second for the most consecutive starts at center with 49.
During the course of his four-year career, Wood would be named to the First-team Freshman All-American team by College Football News, Second-team All-Big East, and First-team All-Big East in both 2007 and 2008.
With that type of resume and an Orange Bowl ring, Eric Wood is in the conversation for the best Louisville offensive lineman of all time, which is by no means an easy feat.
His impressive career at Louisville led to Wood being drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He’d spend nine years in Buffalo, starting every game of his career at center, before a neck injury forced him into early retirement in 2018.
To this day, Wood is one of the fiercest, smartest, and most dominant offensive lineman that Cardnation has ever seen.
Stay tuned for the 21st All-Century defensive team!
