Louisville football: 21st century All-Cardinal offensive team
Quarterback – Lamar Jackson
One of the greatest quarterbacks in college football history, Lamar Jackson was impossible to exclude from this list. His career stats will forever be ridiculous:
9,043 passing yards
69 passing touchdowns
4,132 rushing yards
50 rushing touchdowns
Let’s also not forget that most of that was done in just 2 years as the primary starter (he had 51 touchdowns in one season, 51!). Passing or rushing, those stats mutually exclusive are very impressive. The fact that Lamar managed to do all of that is simply amazing, especially considering things like the offensive line struggles and the coaching staff.
With his very impressive stats and incredible highlights also came some pretty prestigious awards and accolades for Lamar:
2 Time ACC Player of the Year
2 Time ACC Offensive Player of the Year
2016 Heisman Trophy Winner
2016 Unanimous All-American
2016 Walter Camp Award
2016 Maxwell Award Winner
2016 AP Player of the Year
2016 Sporting News Player of the Year
2017 Heisman Finalist
2018 ACC Athlete of the Year
1st Round Draft Pick
Simply the fact that all of this can be done at Louisville, means so much to Louisville Football. For two years, a Louisville player was the show and the talk of college football. Lamar Jackson dominated the college football world and he did it here. He was arguably the face of college sports in 2016. For those reasons, Lamar is not only the best quarterback in the 21st century for Louisville, but also the most important Louisville Football player ever and arguably the greatest athlete to ever step foot on Louisville’s campus.
While Louisville’s had the privilege of enjoying several great quarterbacks in the 21st century, I would be remiss to not at least mention Brian Brohm and Teddy Bridgewater. They still deserve a ton of respect, they both had incredible careers here. But Lamar’s stats and accolades were too great to ignore.
