Boston College

Week 6: October 5th

Here’s where things start to get a little tricky. While Boston College lost several key players from a team that went 7-5 (4-4), including star defensive end Zach Allen, they do return their two most important pieces in 2019; running back AJ Dillon and quarterback Anthony Brown.

Boston College, much like everyone, had their way with Louisville last season winning 38-20 with two running backs having career days, neither of which was Dillon. Behind a strong defense, the Eagles were able to limit Louisville 217 total yards, including just 47 rushing yards.

Louisville will struggle to win a lot of football games in 2019 due to the lack of depth on the roster, but to think that they won’t be able to at least put up more than 217 total yards, especially on a defense that returns just four starters, is a crazy thought. Behind Scott Satterfield’s RPO offense, I expect Louisville to be able to have a solid performance on the ground most weeks, including against BC.

As mentioned the Eagles will return their two best offensive players, and they’ll likely continue to climb the rushing charts in the ACC, a statistic that they finished 7th in last season. Things get tricky for Louisville when it comes to trying to contain Dillon, one of the best running backs in the country.

Though the Cardinal defense will be much improved, their lack of depth will hurt significantly against a team like Boston College, who will do everything in their power to run the ball 35+ times and wear down the defense.

Look for Bryan Brown to stack the box and force BC to use Anthony Brown in ways that they typically aren’t comfortable with. If Louisville is able to force a few turnovers and limit the BC running game, this is another ACC game that I think Louisville can win.
