He was the LAST guy anyone wanted or expected to take the shot. But he hit it, so… it was a great shot! If we’re being honest, the Virginia Cavaliers have claimed the number 2 spot behind UK on Louisville fans “most hated” list.

Mangok Mathiang played 14 minutes that night, and he shot 100% from the field. He only took one shot, the shot. With the game winding down to the final seconds and UVA up 1, the ball was in Terry Rozier’s hands, and pretty much everybody expected he or Montrezl Harrell to be the hero.

But Terry dished it off to Mangok at the free throw line, and the big man delivered. This is a fun article, so once again, for your viewing pleasure:

Mangok himself even knew that everyone in the building groaned when he took the shot as if the game was already lost. Personally, when Brogdon hit the 3-pointer for the Cavs on the previous possession, I walked away from the television. Then a few minutes later, I checked the final score on my phone and saw the highlight video… imagine my surprise.

Everyone knows Virginia has had Louisville’s number since basically forever, so you can bet this win will never be forgotten by Card Nation. Mangok Mathiang earned his spot on this list and a special place in our hearts for this one. Thanks, big fella.
