Louisville Basketball: Cards Biggest Wins in the Last 5 Years
By Madison Wood
2/20/16 vs. No. 20 Duke – W 71-64
Who doesn’t love the throwback unis? A home game in those beauties, against Duke is already one of the most (if not the most) anticipated game of the year. But more than that, this game was just 2 weeks after it was announced that the Cards basketball program would be self-imposing a postseason ban.
Damion Lee and Trey Lewis – as we all remember – were key pieces to that team who lost their last chance to play in an NCAA tournament, due to no fault of their own. Even still, they and the rest of the team who had such high aspirations and so much potential didn’t throw in the towel.
Duke was once again loaded with talent. Led by the infamous Grayson Allen, and a star-studded squad that included freshmen Luke Kennard and Brandon Ingram, the Blue Devils were a favorite to make the Final Four. Ingram didn’t have his best game, but Allen had done enough to keep the Devils in front for most of the game.
But then Damion and Trey, along with Deng Adel, took over. Adel frustrated Allen by locking him down on the defensive end and Jaylen Johnson took a charge with under 4 minutes to go. Allen fouled out on that play and was assessed a technical for throwing a tantrum on his way to the bench. At that point, the Cards had stolen all momentum and the rest is history.
Beating this particular team wearing blue is always fun, but nothing is better than a dub against the blue guys from down the road…
