Louisville football: An underrated player at each position for the Cards
Safety
Trenell Troutman
Since the end of the 2018 season, Louisville has lost veterans Dee Smith and London Iakapo to seniority, and secondary members Rodjay Burns and CJ Avery are sliding over to linebacker in 2019. Additionally the Cards have shuffled things around and corner Russ Yeast projects to be a starter at safety instead of corner.
The Cards are still thin at safety, with only Yeast and veteran Khane Pass as returnees with a ton of experience. Lamarques Thomas and Marlon Character should help ease the sting of the loss of Smith and Iakapo.
One name that should be on your radar though is Sophomore Trenell Troutman. The bruiser out of St. Thomas Aquinas was one of Louisville’s highest-rated recruits in the 2018 class, and was one of only a handful of true freshmen to play in more than four games last season.
Troutman was a solid addition when he got chances to play, and recorded two tackles against both Kentucky and Clemson. Again, he fits the mold of what the new coaching staff wants to do. He is quick to the ball, has elite speed and athleticism, and is a versatile player. He can line up at any spot in the secondary.

Louisville has a gem in Troutman. If you didn’t know his name going into the season, you will soon enough.
