Louisville Football continues its recruiting rampage, securing a commitment from rising local talent Josh Minkins Jr.

With their fourth commitment in as many days and eleventh total for the 2020 class, Louisville football is officially rolling in the recruiting department.

Ballard standout junior Josh Minkins Jr. announced his commitment to his hometown school Friday, adding to the recent recruiting excitement surrounding Louisville.

Minkins Jr. is no stranger to Louisville football, as his father Josh Minkins Sr. was a defensive back for the Cards as well from 2000 to 2003.

Boasting an offer list going 20 deep (including in-state rival UK), and winning MVP honors last month at Nike’s ‘The Opening’ camp in Nashville,  Minkins Jr. has seen his recruitment take off in recent months.

Even with his recruitment gaining momentum, Minkins was eagerly waiting for his hometown university to officially offer him – which came at the beginning of June.

After receiving the Louisville offer Minkins told Cardinal Authority.com,

"“I’ve been waiting for this offer for my whole life, just knowing you have an offer to play where you live and put on for the city is a blessing. It meant a lot to be able to have him talk to the coaches and hear what they had to say, also what he thought.”"

At 6’3” – 185lb, Three star Minkins Jr. ranks as the 53rd best safety in the 2020 class, and the number 2 defensive back in Ky – according to 247 sports. Although he was a playmaker on both sides of the ball for Ballard this past season, Minkins Jr. will be utilized as a Safety for Louisville.

It’s easy to see the upside for Minkins on the defensive side, as he shows great vision playing safety – following the QB and making quick decisions that allow him to impact every play. His length allows him to really challenge wide receivers for every type of throw, positioning himself for potential interceptions.  You can check out his current highlight reel HERE.

I love that Louisville is truly making an effort to keep Louisville kids in the city, one of Satterfield’s first promises he made when initially hired. Everyone should be excited about the local effort, and the overall recruiting momentum in general for the program.

Now with two local commitments in the bag, including Minkinks Jr. and former Christian Academy of Louisville standout offensive lineman Austin Collins, the Cards will turn their full attention to the two remaining local recruits in the class of 2020 – Jordan Watkins of Butler High School and Izayah Cummings of Male.

Next. 5 freshmen from the class of 2019 that will make an impact for Louisville football right away. dark

Look for Minkins Jr. to be a core safety for the Cards in the years to come.
