Louisville football will send wide receiver Seth Dawkins and linebacker Dorian Etheridge representing the Cards at the 2019 ACC Football Kickoff.

Football is closer than it may appear, which is a huge breath of fresh air for all of the hungry Louisville football fans, as well as the players who are looking to get the bad taste out of their mouth from last season’s 2-10 season.

With a new coach, often times you don’t get to learn much about your team until fall practice gets underway, but occasionally a coach will mention a players name or do something that signals a certain player or two may be standing out above the rest.

For Scott Satterfield and Louisville football, there’s a lot to question about the upcoming season whether it’s the roster, the captains, the scheme, the transition, and so on and so forth. But one thing we learned today is who will represent the program at the 2019 ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte, NC later this month.

According to a release from the ACC, Louisville football will have senior wide receiver Seth Dawkins and linebacker Dorian Etheridge alongside Scott Satterfield as the team gets ready for the upcoming season.

The ACC Football Kickoff will take place July 17-18 and all 14 teams will be represented at the event.

While this honestly doesn’t mean a lot, it does signal that Satterfield has built a rapport with both players, one of the offensive side and on defense, at least enough to put them up on a stage to speak and answer questions about last season and the new era of Louisville football.

Both players have been consistent steady hands for Louisville over the last three seasons, providing quite a bit of production and a dose of leadership as needed. Dawkins, who took a bit of a step back last season (as did just about everyone on the team) and Etheridge have both flown under the radar this offseason as other flashier and younger players have stolen a bit of the spotlight, but my guess is both will have big seasons for the Cards this year.

Last season at the ACC Kickoff, Bobby Petrino and the Cards were looking to step out of the shadows of Lamar Jackson and Jaire Alexander and into the future behind Jawon Pass, and it was the first time we heard Petrino speak on what to expect. He told reporters:

"“I expect us to be better. I expect us to be more balanced, the ability to get more guys involved, particularly in the running game. I really like our receiving corps coming back. I really think it’s one of the strongest corps coming back”"

That was the beginning of the end for Petrino and the Cards.

This year Satterfield, Dawkins, and Etheridge will likely all be faced with tough questions on what went wrong last season and how things are going to look better.

We honestly probably won’t learn much about Satterfield’s plans for the upcoming season, outside of what we’ve already been told this summer, but it will be great to see him representing the Ville for the first time at a major ACC event and hear about how the team is progressing.

It’ll also be a breath of fresh air to not be the laughing stock of the ACC. A brighter future is ahead for the Cards and hope and promise will be the theme this season for Louisville football at the ACC Football Kickoff.
