Chinanu Onuaku- Boston

If there’s a player who is a possible darkhorse to earn a roster spot, maybe it’s Chinanu Onuaku. He played in 6 total NBA games over two seasons with the Rockets and has dominated the boards in three years of work in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Charlotte Swarm.

Onuaku has averaged a double-double (12.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists) in his three seasons in the G League, but has been unable to find an opportunity on the big stage with names like NeNe and Clint Capella in front of him.

Now with the Celtics, Onuaku will certainly be behind Enes Kanter and rookie Frenchman Vincent Poirier. However, there is hope for the fourth year center depending on the route that the Celtics decide to take. On the summer league roster, only Tacko Fall- the 7’6″ big man out of Central Florida- figures to stand in the way (literally and figuratively). With that said, Fall is still a few years behind Onuaku and may struggle to adjust to the speed of the league.

If the rookie Poirier doesn’t pan out as the Celtics front office hopes he will, Onuaku has more than proven that he deserves a chance.
