Seven bold predictions for the Louisville football 2019 season

Alan Thomas – Louisville football will break the school’s single-season home attendance record in 2019
There’s an ocean of momentum heading into the summer. Heck, we may not even make it to a bowl in Coach Satterfield’s first year. Nevertheless, all signs point to Louisville football breaking the school attendance record this season.
Vince Tyra gets it. Louisville basketball season ticket-holders that had perfect attendance were rewarded with an all-access event last month at the KFC Yum! Center. I was there and it was totally worth it. It is my inkling that the same type of reward will be offered at Cardinal Stadium.
There’s buzz all around the football program. Everything from welcoming recruiting news to making the pink seats red and the schedule features several great draws for fans to come put butts in the stands for.
We have Notre Dame coming into town the first game of the season. As a side prediction, I think that game will break the all-time school single-game record that was set vs Florida State in 2016.
What better way to see the new culture on display first-hand than to bring one of the most prestigious programs in college football history into town for the season opener?
Let’s remember, this is Louisville…a basketball-crazed city. When there is hype around hoops in this town, it tends to bleed over into other sports as well.
Some preseason polls have the Cards as high as #2, and with a stout recruiting class and the return of Jordan Nwora and Steven Enoch, Cardnation is clamoring with excitement.
Okay, now for the stats. Louisville football coaching changes in recent history have yielded higher attendance averages in each new coach’s first year.
For instance, in 2009 (Steve Kragthorpe’s last year) the average home attendance was 32,448. The following year (Charlie Strong’s first) had an average of 50,648. Even Charlie’s final season in 2013 (the team went 12-1) was upstaged by the first season of Bobby 2.0 (9-4).
With last year’s embarrassing results, giving Papa John the boot while renaming the stadium, and the new regime at the helm with promising aspirations, I think there is plenty reason to believe Louisville will break the all-time attendance record this season, even if we don’t become bowl-eligible. This fan base has a history of appreciating growth.
