Eastern Kentucky

September 7th

Five days is a heck of a turn around regardless of who you play, but thankfully for Louisville, they’ll get a matchup with Eastern Kentucky.

While Eastern Kentucky is a member of the FCS, that doesn’t mean that they won’t present a challenge to the Cards. With 50 players back from last season’s 7-4 team, including 13 starters, the Colonels are looked at to be a breakout team this season and could be ranked close to the top 25 (FCS) when the season begins.

Much like with any team at the FCS level, Eastern Kentucky will have challenges of being able to deal with the speed, power, athleticism, and overall talent of the Cards but should be able to at least put up a fight early.

The real challenge for the Cards will be how they handle bouncing back in five days. Again, no matter whether you’re playing Florida State or Florida Southern A&M State, playing football games five days apart is not easy. The wear and tear of going toe-to-toe with Notre Dame will be tough, but for a team dealing with a new staff and a new of doing things, they’ll have to get adjusted quickly or else they could struggle.

Defensive end Aaron Patrick will present some problems for the Cards offensive line, but once again it’ll be a good challenge and opportunity to see where they are at.

I expect Louisville to win big here as they are the far superior team, which will be present a chance for backups on both sides of the ball to get in and get valuable reps. With the team facing as many concerns with depth as Louisville, getting in freshman and players who didn’t get much playing time could help down the stretch of the season as injuries and fatigue set in.

Prediction: Louisville 45, EKU 14

Louisville record: 1-1
