Yet another multi-talented athlete on our All-Cardinal team is that of Kerry Rhodes. At Lanier High School in Bessemer, Alabama he was a stellar quarterback, earning Metro Player of the Year for his football efforts, and first-team All-State honors on the basketball court, where his team won the state title.

He actually began his Louisville career as a quarterback but switched positions, and we’re all thankful for that now.

Kerry finished his freshman and sophomore years he had 27 tackles, two interceptions, and a blocked kick. But that was nothing. By the end of his days as a Cardinal he had amassed 167 tackles and eleven interceptions. In 2004 he was awarded first-team All-Conference USA honors.

He was a crucial part of Louisville’s victory over Boise State in the 2004 Liberty Bowl.

He was drafted in the fourth round by the New York Jets and enjoyed a healthy NFL career that spanned from 2005-2012. In 2006 he was named Second-team All-Pro and in 2010 he was the NFC’s leader in interception return yards.

He was inducted into the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
