Louisville football: 2019 game-by-game predictions
Miami
DJ: The last time these two teams matched up, the Cardinals dominated the Hurricanes, 36-9. This story will be entirely different. Miami has one of the best defenses in the country. Louisville will be a run-oriented team and Miami was a top 50 run defense allowing 3.5 yards a carry. Miami was 18th in scoring defense and was 4th in total yards allowed per game in the country.
Louisville 3, Miami 31 (2-7)
Will: Going into Hard Rock Stadium and winning is far from easy. The only team that accomplished this in 2018, the Duke Blue Devils, had a top 10 NFL Draft Pick under center. The questions the Cards have at the quarterback position are gonna make it tough to win games against proven teams on the road in what could be the toughest conference in college football. I think we show flashes of what Louisville football can be in the future with coach Satterfield in this one, but it’s not enough to beat the Canes in Coral Gables.
Louisville 24, Miami FL 37 (3-6)
Alan: Once again Satterfield’s defense can’t seem to get a stop upfront, as they flounder on the road in a disappointing loss. Miami is able to operate in the middle of the field all day long, steamrolling Louisville.
Louisville 14, Miami 34 (4-5)
Presley: Louisville heads to Miami coming off of a bye week but the Cards are likely to run into a buzzsaw in South Florida. The Hurricanes lost Mark Richt, but could not have had a more seamless transition by picking up defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, who was headed to Temple before reversing course when offered the head coaching gig at the U.
The offense was the problem for Miami last year. They were the second-best defense in the ACC, only behind Clemson. Now, they bring in a star-studded cast headed by Ohio State transfer Tate Martell, who will have a plethora of talented receivers to throw to.
In the end, Louisville will be tested in pass protection and in the secondary- two areas where they are unproven- and this will be a tough one to pull out.
Louisville 23, Miami 34 (4-5)
Ethan: Another tough one of Scott Satterfield and company. Miami is supposed to be pretty good, and it’s at Miami, once again, we’re just in the middle of a tough rebuild so it’s going to be tough. Louisville shows some flashes in this one but just isn’t quite ready – which is what I think will be the story of this season.
