Notre Dame

DJ Bien-Aime II (@DJ_Bienaime): Louisville opens up with Notre Dame on Labor Day. The Scott Satterfield era begins against one of the best teams in the country. Notre Dame was 12-1 with their lone loss to the eventual national champions in Clemson. Notre Dame brings back their quarterback Ian Book and sack leader from Julian Okwara. Satterfield is still installing his culture and that takes some time. His first game as the head coach for Appalachian State, he opened up against Michigan in 2014 and was obliterated 52-14. I expect something similar here.

Louisville 17, Notre Dame 48 (0-1)

Will Reddington (@WillReddington4): New head football coach Scott Satterfield’s debut will be on the biggest of stages. A prime time Labor Day showdown with Notre Dame, fresh off of a trip to the College Football Playoff last season. The cards are hefty home underdogs here, getting 20 points at home against our rivals from South Bend. This is only the second time the Cards & the Irish have met on the gridiron. I think Notre Dame gets their revenge for the 2014 loss against the Reggie Bonnafon led Louisville squad.

Louisville 13, Notre Dame 34 (0-1)

Alan Thomas (@Card_N_AL): The sellout crowd and Labor Day hype give way to an energized start for the Louisville offense, but Brian Kelly and staff are much too wise when it comes to in-game adjustments. Ian Book does not disappoint in the season opener, shredding the Louisville defense in the second half

Louisville 17, Notre Dame 38 (0-1)

Presley Meyer (@Meyer_Presley): The transition to any new coaching era is never easy, and starting off on Labor Day weekend in a potential rebuilding year against a consensus top 10 foe is never easy. Notre Dame fans figure to show up in droves and make this one a 60-40 crowd barely favoring the Cards.

The Irish made their second playoff appearance last season, and though their season finished on a sour note, they return ready to reload under Brian Kelly. It’s tough to envision a scenario where Louisville can pull this one out, though it should be closer than the experts think.

Louisville 18, Notre Dame 31 (0-1)

Ethan Sprowles (@EthanSprowles): Don’t think anybody expected Louisville football to be in this position when we found out this game was happening. But nonetheless, here we are, coming off an embarrassing 2 win season facing a Top 5 Notre Dame team. I think you can expect a spirited Louisville squad with a renewed energy.

Louisville does have one thing going for them, there’s really no way to tell what Louisville is going to do in this game with the new staff. Senior quarterback Ian Book is poised to have a big year, Notre Dame also boasted one of the best defenses in the country last year so Scott Satterfield and co. will have their hands full. Notre Dame pulls away in the second half after the Cardinals make it a little interesting in the 1st.
