Just because a player starts week one doesn’t mean they’ll be the starter over the course of 14 weeks. We take a look at five guys for Louisville football who may not start against Notre Dame but will be starters by seasons end.
Every year across all of college football, including the Louisville football program, players are named starters for season openers for a number of reasons. They may be returning starters, beat out another player at their position during fall camp, or stepped into the role due to injury. Whatever the reason is, it doesn’t mean that they’ll be considered “a one” for the full season.
This season for Louisville and new head coach Scott Satterfield, nearly every single starting spot is up for grabs.
While a handful of players returning in 2019 either started at their respective position last season, or were the “next up” after a guy left, or maybe even are the “presumed” starter, all 22 guys on offense and defense will have to earn their keep. That’s just how it works with a new coach and a new scheme.
With fall camp getting underway this past weekend, and a “depth chart” already released by the Cards, we wanted to take a deeper look at the roster looking for players who may not be a starter against Notre Dame, but could earn the title by seasons end.
Louisville’s depth will be an ongoing issue throughout the season, and injuries to presumptive starters will happen (it’s football), so here are five players you need to know that could be a starting member of the Louisville football offense or defense by the end of the 2019 season.
