Jerry Smith

If there’s anyone who knows the in’s and out’s of The Basketball Tournament, it’s former Cardinal guard Jerry Smith. The 6’4″ combo guard has played in the TBT on several occasions over the last four years, most recently playing with “Team Challenge ALS” and helping them make it to the 2017 championship game where they ultimately fell to former Cardinal Preston Knowles.

The last time we saw Jerry Smith in Louisville was back in 2010 when the Cards closed out the season in disappointing fashion, losing to California in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Smith was one of the better role players for Rick Pitino early in his career, and to this day has some of the biggest highlight plays in the red and black, including the game-winner against Marquette.

Since his Louisville days, Jerry Smith has spent time playing in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets and their respective NBA Developmental affiliate, before heading overseas for what has been an extremely successful career with stops in Israel, Germany, Greece, and more.

Smith would bring a veteran presence to the team, one with a history and understanding of the tournament and how to make the moves necessary to make it to the Championship game.

He’s a clutch shot maker and defender as well, and would offer a nice compliment to the other guards on the roster.
