Louisville football landed their 21st commitment in the 2020 class today from a rising two-way Georgia standout.

All has been quiet on the recruiting front over the last month or so as the Louisville football program prepares for the kickoff of the 2019 football season against Notre Dame on September 2nd.

With 20 players already committed to the program before the team’s steps onto the field for the first time under Scott Satterfield, the staff now has the ability to be picky about who they take to wrap up the 2020 class.

One player who the staff set their eyes and now has landed a commitment from is Desmond Daniels, a three-star Georgia product.

The Cards recently had the 6’4, 220-pounder up on a visit during one of their VIP weekends where they were able to see him up close and in person after extending a scholarship back in June.

They clearly liked what they saw, and now have their 21st commitment in the books for 2020.  After a summer where he saw his recruitment take a big jump, Daniels ultimately chose the Cards over Indiana, Syracuse, and Maryland – two of which he’s visited in the last few months and have been a heavy target for.

While he’s listed as a defensive end by 247 Sports, Daniels has been targeted by the staff as a tight end, after playing both defensive end and offensive line for Langston Hughes High in Georgia.

With Jordan Davis graduating after the completion of the 2019 season, adding depth at one of the most important positions in Satterfield’s offense was paramount to close out the class. Though he’s spent his high school career playing mostly on the offensive and defensive line, Daniels brings great potential at tight end.

You can watch Daniels full highlight tape here.

He’ll join Ean Pfeifer, Dez Melton, Tobias Little, Marshon Ford, and incoming 2020 commitment Duane Martin, as scholarship tight ends/h-backs on the 2020-2021 roster for Scott Satterfield and tight end coach Stu Holt.

When talking about what he is looking for at tight end and how he uses the players on his roster in the offensive scheme, Satterfield said:

"“We want to get in a lot of different formations and personnel groupings. Four wide, one tight end, three wide and two tight ends and even three tight ends. We want to be very multiple and do different things in formations while running a simple offense.”"

At 6’4, Daniels possesses nice size (will need to add more to his frame) and will instantly become a red zone target for Chubba Purdy or Tee Webb. But primarily, it’s likely that he’ll be used as a blocker – a spot where his experience on the offensive and defensive line should shine.

dark. Next. An underrated player at each position for the Cards

He’s a powerful player who is good at the point of attack, especially when it comes to run blocking. With the new look offense finding tight ends who are pass catchers first is a thing of the past, instead of placing the priority on winning up front with solid blocking – which is exactly where they are headed with guys like Daniels in the fold.
