Roundtable: Previewing the 2019 Louisville football season
By Jacob Lane
Where should expectations be for 2019?
Tanner Hickman: I think expectations should be 3-9. Anything above that and you could feel good about the future but anything below that and like Kenny Loggins you’re in the danger zone. If you go 3-9 and are competitive in more than half of your games, I think fans will feel good about this year.
Presley Meyer: Realistically, today the expectations should be four wins. Two out of conference and two in-conference wins. However, as these things often go, I think we should reevaluate mid-season. It’s kind of unfair to say “X” wins or bust given the current climate around this team. As I said, it takes time. We just don’t know how steep that learning curve truly is yet.
Ethan Sprowles: Again, call it cliche, but compete. Show improvement, win more than 2 games. This year, just get to 4-5 wins and don’t get embarrassed like last season. That’s all you can really ask for this season.
Jacob Lane: I think it’s fair to say that expectations should be doubling the win total, and get to 4-8 on the season (which is what Nebraska did under Scott Frost last season and are now a top 25 team).
It all starts with showing that you can compete, and they’ll get that opportunity against Notre Dame as it should get out of hand sometime in the first three quarters. After that comes improving in all three phases of the game and getting better every single week, even if you aren’t winning.
Alan Thomas: I’ve heard everything from 2-10 to 7-5 from the talking mouths, but I’d temper my expectations as a Louisville fan. That being said, anything below four wins or more than 5 would be unexpected.
Alex Stengel: Besides all over the board? I woke up last week one morning convinced were only winning three games – I woke up yesterday thinking five is pretty realistic. With so many factors going into the season, even the experts are just guessing. Manageable expectations should be 4-5 wins, hopefully.
