As summer screeches to a halt and sports season begin we examine a question that made its rounds on social media this week. What are the biggest “what ifs” over the last decade or so for Louisville football and Louisville basketball?
Life is filled with “what ifs.” Every day we make decisions that affect the next day, and the next day after that, and so on and so forth. No matter whether it’s choosing what to eat for lunch, where to go on vacation, or who to date, every choice and decision has ramifications that extend for years (usually). The same can be said in sports, and in this case, particularly pertaining to the Louisville football and basketball programs.
If you could go back in time and redo one play in Louisville sports history, what would it be? This is obviously a difficult question to answer, but the BRL gang put our heads together and really thought this one over.
Louisville sports have long been teetering between solid power five team and national power. Some years stand out more than others, but the Cardinals have been close to the top on so many occassions that it is often painful to recount.
One play goes this way and the whole season could be different: One shot falls, one pass is caught, one bad injury sets back the season, etc. And then it leads to a whole other set of questions regarding what the future would look like if things went a little bit differently.
That’s life, however, and sports are a microcosm of the lessons we learn in our day-to-day existence. Making the right decision is everything, and one mistake can cost you a lot.
Louisville basketball and football in particular could be completely different programs if not for a few things going a slightly different way.
