Louisville football: The 50 greatest Cardinals of all time
One of the fastest players in Louisville football history makes the list next.
Trent Guy was an extremely versatile receiver who could reverse the course of a game in one play. Guy played for Bobby Petrino on Louisville’s 2006 Orange Bowl squad before playing three tough years under Steve Kragthorpe.
Overall, it’s an impressive feat to make this list playing three years under one of the most chaotic and unorganized coaching staffs in modern Louisville football history. Guy was a special talent that was used in the slot, on kick and punt returns, and any number of ways in the backfield.
Though he never recorded an offensive stat during his freshman year, Guy wound up with 966 yards and five passing and rushing touchdowns across his final three seasons.
That may not seem like a ton, but every time he had the ball in his hands, it was electric. Guy finished his career averaging 15.6 yards per play from scrimmage, including a gaudy 17.4 yards per play during his senior season.
Additionally, Guy was one of the best return specialists in school history. He always seemed to house one at the perfect time. Perhaps most notably in 2006, Guy brought the house down by scoring on a punt return in the original blackout against West Virginia.
Guy finished his career with 1,980 kick return yards and 306 punt return yards. All in all, he had five special teams touchdowns during his career as a Cardinal.
After college, Guy was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders before moving to the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad for two years. Following his NFL career, Guy played four years in the CFL, where he was a huge success.
Most notably, Guy returned a missed field goal in the CFL 129 yards for a touchdown as a member of the Montreal Alouettes in 2012.
