Scott Satterfield pulled out his first victory as the head coach for Lousiville football and the program’s first win since week three of last year. Who deserved a game ball in the Cards shutout against EKU?

September 15, 2018. That was the last time Louisville football walked away from a game with their score being higher than their opponent. 358 total days.

Clearly, a lot has happened between Saturday (September 7th) and the 15th of last season. The days of being blown away with little fight or effort are gone, and in its place is a new look Louisville team that fights until the end.

We saw that Saturday at Cardinal Stadium against Eastern Kentucky as the Cards shut out the Colonels 42-0, doing so for the first time as a program since 2013 when they knocked off FIU 72-0.

While you usually don’t learn much about your team in a blowout win over a clearly overmatched school – to the Louisville program it’s a bit different. Saturday’s win against EKU, who is a respectable program at the FCS level (they scored 53 points the week before), shows the progress that the new-look Cardinals have made under Scott Satterfield and company.

Giving up zero points to anyone, regardless of the level of football, seemed impossible last season or even the year before. Louisville was becoming known for their ability to let anyone score at any given time, regardless of what was on the field.

Against EKU, Louisville played with pride, tenacity, aggressiveness, and effort unlike anything we’ve seen in quite some time at Cardinal Stadium – and they did so on both sides of the ball. We saw big-time performances from nearly every position group as they dominated on the way to their first win of the 2019 season and first for Scott Satterfield.

The celebration was legendary and thankfully documented by Josh Minkins.

Now we can truly hand out game balls the way they were supposed to be given out – in a win.

Who shined for the Cards? We give out five more game balls from Saturday’s 42-0 victory.
