Injuries, competition, and more: Where Louisville football QB’s stand
Three games into the 2019 season, Louisville football has some issues to address at quarterback. Where do the Cards go from here?
Following Louisville football’s victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday, the Cards have a lot of positives to take away, but also a ton of question marks moving forward.
One of the biggest storylines that will continue to surround this Cardinals squad under first-year head coach Scott Satterfield is the quarterback situation.
Louisville has played all three of their scholarship quarterbacks to this point, has already seen their two starters miss time due to injuries, and play has been inconsistent overall.
One of the Cards’ biggest strengths is their wide receiver unit, but those around the program are growing worried that two of their biggest stars- Seth Dawkins and Dez Fitzpatrick– are struggling to get touches due to inconsistent quarterback play.
“We’ve got to get them more targets,” Satterfield said in his weekly press conference on Monday afternoon. “We haven’t called a lot of passes, and when we’ve called their number, (passes) have gone somewhere else, or (the quarterback) has scrambled.”
Regardless of who the quarterback is, the concern is that there isn’t enough consistency in the passing game to see downfield throws as a major threat. When Louisville faces more talented defenses, teams may ultimately wind up stacking the box and forcing the Cardinals to throw the ball.
To better break down the scenarios for the Cards going forward, we went through each quarterback’s performance thus far to give us an idea of who could end up guiding Louisville for the rest of the season.
