Tutu Atwell is a bonafide star

A few things have become clear about this Louisville offense over the first 3 weeks. The passing has been suspect, the run game has been phenomenal and Tutu Atwell is really hard for opposing defenses to stop.

There were times during the Western Kentucky matchup this past Saturday where Louisville’s offense looked a little out of sync, unprepared and confused. But that was far from the case when Atwell was involved.

From the deep ball to the shovel pass jet sweep, the offense just looks better when the ball is in Atwell’s hands. The field seems to be infinitely more open and the opposing team seems significantly slower when number one gets a full head of steam.

Tutu touched the ball six times on Saturday, he had two carries for 10 yards and he had four catches for 141 yards and an astounding three touchdowns.

Having a guy with this kind of speed and route-running ability doesn’t happen often and could help the other receivers such as Dez Fitzpatrick and Seth Dawkins start to get more opportunities as well. Defenses are going to have to key on Tutu to keep Louisville out of the end zone. Both Fitzpatrick and Dawkins have gotten off to very slow starts in 2019, but with Tutu as a decoy on plays he isn’t involved, we should start to see exclusively single coverage.

His performance has already been nationally recognized as it should be. But if it isn’t already, it’s going to become a priority to get Tutu Atwell the ball early and often for this Louisville offense.
