Who knows who the QB is

The quarterback situation at Louisville is as complicated as it’s ever been. Jawon Pass, who started the first two games of the season, spent Saturday’s game in a walking boot. An injured turf toe could mean we could see him in week four against Florida State, or maybe not see him until week six or seven.

Malik Cunningham got the start, a guy who appeared in 10 games last season as a freshman. Cunningham is known as a dual-threat QB, with the main threat being his legs. The Tops seemed determined to shut them down on Saturday, consistently packing the box with eight to nine defenders while playing press, single coverage along the outside.

Outside of the first drive of each respective half, Malik handled this pretty well. He knew he was going to have to make some plays and he did just that.

Cunningham threw for 119 yards while completing eight of 13, he also ran for 46 on 16 attempts. The play calling on Saturday was perfect for him. It was a sound mixture of quick-hitter six-yard passing plays, consistent run plays off tackle and occasionally a well designed deep ball.

But a hit that caused Cunningham to lose his helmet sent freshman quarterback Evan Conley into the game for the first time.

It felt like it was going to be for one play, but it turned out being the rest of the game. Conley is a guy who really wanted to play for Scott Satterfield. He was a long-time Appalachian State commit before flipping to UofL upon the coaching change.

Cunningham is okay thankfully, Satterfield said in the post-game presser. But they chose to go with Conley, he did about as well as he could for only throwing three passes

Who knows where this goes from here. Pass is listed at the top of the depth chart for week 4, Cunningham showed flashes of brilliance on Saturday, Evan Conley came in and carried the load when called upon. Interesting times under center await the Cardinals.
