Avoid turnovers

Louisville’s lone loss so far this season came against a very respectable opponent in Notre Dame. While they lost by 18, the game was and could’ve been much closer than that. What killed the Cards? Fumbles. They coughed the ball up five times and lost three of them, two of those came at pivotal moments that directly swung the game.

Louisville turned the ball over zero times against Eastern Kentucky, resulting in a smooth 42-0 victory.

Against Western Kentucky this past weekend in Nashville, Louisville fumbled the ball just one time. This came at the beginning of the second half and really gave WKU a chance to get back in the game. The Tops quickly capitalized, scored and cut the deficit to 17, when a long UofL touchdown drive could’ve extended that lead to 31.

Turnovers can change everything and they can change everything fast. The Louisville quarterbacks have thrown zero interceptions through three games which is beyond impressive. The Florida State defense did force two interceptions on the road at UVA this past weekend, so something has to give.

Louisville needs to hang onto the ball, put together some long drives that result in points and not give the Seminoles anything for free. All of this is much easier said than done, but if the Cards can do it, a bowl game may not seem like an unreachable dream anymore.
