Improve passing out of the post

The main reason I absolutely love watching Enoch play is the way he can take over with the flip of a switch. He plays like a man’s man.

That brings me to the final area I bet both he and Mack would love for him to improve upon: passing to jump shooters from the interior or “kicking out”.

With so many shooting weapons on this year’s team (and in the NBA), this is the wrinkle in his game that will be vital to his growth and maturity.

I’m not going to pretend that he’s going to average three or four assists per game to graduate into elite big man status. I mean the guy was dominant enough last season averaging 0.2 apg. But wow, to think about how much the floor would open up if he could draw or shift the defense into the interior and kick it out to open shooters is very exciting.

More often than not Enoch had a tendency to become a vacuum in the post, meaning the ball went down low and never came back out. I’d like to see Steve be an active big man with the ball. There isn’t anything wrong with backing a defender down, but Enoch will draw more and more double-teams this season, which will open up his teammates for scoring opportunities.

The same can be said for many big men across the country, but I feel that in Enoch’s case, the more kicking out to the plethora of shooting talent Louisville has this year, the more opportunities he will have for back-to-the-basket one-on-one battles once he establishes to the rest of the college basketball world that he is capable of such passes.

I for one am on pins and needles in anticipation for Steve Enoch’s development this season. He has next-level written all over him, and I hope he patches up these minor flaws in what has blossomed into a well-rounded toolbox.
